MY opinion...grasp the strings with a paper towel, gently pull down toward the belly..it should slide out. I took my first few bitches to my vet when it happened to one of mine and he did exactly as I wrote...and told me to do the same next time and not bother him...he was a close friend and joked with me...never had a problem gently removing a placenta..and it must be done.

PS..you can also massage the belly and draw it out like sauage from a casing...I have over 35 yrs of breeding experience and would never suggest anything all breeders do unless is safe..IMO Wednesday is too long for an after whelping check..24 hrs tops.
