OK, after a 4 day long weekend, I am sold!
It was nice weather for a couple of days so there were several walkers and bike riders going by the front window. My Maddie lays in wait on top of the sofa in the den looking into the formal living room so she can wait for someone to dare walk by HER house on HER street. Then she leaps off and tears off into the dining room and living room to bark at them to tell them to stay off HER street. After a couple of time of a quick press of the button and the quiet command, all it took was just the quiet command. The most amazing thing was when someone walked by with a dog on a leash. She barked a couple of times and then actually did quit barking when I said quiet. It has not stopped her from reacting to someone walking by and running to the window to bark at them, but at least it has given me a way to quiet her.
I would imagine to use it to keep a large dog away from you if you are out walking one would press and hold the button down. So, it would not be something you would want to use when out for a walk with your own dog, because your dog would hear the noise as well. When I use it to control barking, I just quickly press and release.
If anyone has any ideas to keep her from reacting to someone walking by on the street, I would love to hear them. Yes, I know dogs need/want to bark to warn us, but these people are not even in my yard. I have a pretty large front yard and they are on the street. Funny thing is, she does not bark at the doorbell and does not bark at people when they come in the door. But the street.... another story... |
