I expect potty training to take about 6-8 months. I use treats. Also, when the dog is in the act of going say something like "POTTY" so the dog learns to associate the word with the deed. The big trouble I had with my yorkie mix is that she would get distracted outside and hold it until she goes back in. I have a doggie door and a few times she actually ran in, went potty, then came back out. I

At 6 1/2 months she's 95% house broken. My second dog is 3 months, and crate trained. He's got it down already! Spike was doing good, I'd here her go out the doggie door in the middle of the night. but we had a bad storm and she started going in the house again for a few weeks.

it takes time, lucky for me I have stained concrete floors, and they are a breeze to clean.

Limiting the area the dog can be in helps a lot. as does keeping a close eye and being ready to take it outside at any and all warning signs.
