3 pounds is alot to gain in 6 months time from the same amount of food, even if it is grain free. How much do the directions on the packaging suggest to give? I don't routinely feed kibble, but 1/2 cup sounds like a bit much. My Wysong kibble is 1/2 cup, for a 10lb dog per day, so I'm feeding about half of that for my 4 1/2 lbs boy.
