After your dog is socialized and Ovedience trained, distraction class is simply a class to assist in the dog learning not to be distracted by other dogs, people, and events. Just a group of dogs, all sizes and breeds, the owners, and trainer in a room, or out doors. All dogs will be given various commands to stay, place, etc. Also, walking in a circle, and your dog is placed in the middle of the circle. He should stay in place, and not get up....if he does, he is corrected. Each week, the various exercises increase, and intensify. It shows your dog that no harm will come to him, and to be obedient to your commands. I can place my Corso is a SIT or down, and have other dogs walk up and sniff him without him moving. Part obedience, part fun, but great to keep them calm and to show that not everything is a threat. We tried it with the Yorkie, but she is just too "spirited" for it. We have socialized her to high heaven, praised, corrected, but she will revert back to being a Bully/Princess. Besides, if she attacks, no harm will come to another dog or person, but we make sure not to put her in a bad situation. If a large breed guardian does, there will be legal issues and the police.
