Another suggestion would be to buy some elastic, prefereably the thinnnest one you can find, and cut it to size. I had a similar challenge with my dog carrier and that is how i fixed it. I stitched the elastic to the seam, I removed the old clasp and attached it to the elastic. It worked like a charm. The good thing is that since it is an elastic, it goes back into place. I hope this was useful.
