You stated that the petsitter took him to the vet where he prescribed Albon suspension. Did the Vet give her/him any paperwork explaining the tests that were done; and specifically what type of infection your pup has?
I personally would do what the vet has instructed.
Albon suspension is used specifically for bacterial infections, as the drug remains unchanged when excreted by dogs; that way treating the entire GI tract. If your vet has given your pup this as a med, then he has found a bacterial infection which needs to be treated.
While the other suggestions might aid in the comfort of the dog's outside areas, you should also consider that if he does not take the antibiotics, then the inside infection could possible get worse.
