Teddy Bumpkins - Help with Anus issue I was out of town for a few days and left my dogs in the care of a petsitter who obviously did not do her job. Please refrain from comments regarding the petsitter as she has already been dealt with accordingly. I need some help with Teddy, not with how to deal with the petsitter.
Apparently while we were gone, Teddy got a poop ball stuck to his bum. To make a long story short, the petsitter brought him to the vet who said no feces were impacted in his rectum and sent Teddy home with an antibiotic called "Albon Oral Suspension." I have not started him on this because I wanted to assess the situation myself.
When I arrived home last night, I had to spend a good 2 hours to soak the cement feces off his anus and wash him. It was a pain staking process but I got him clean and when I did, the tissues around his anus were swollen and red. I put some triple antibiotic ointment on him and we went to bed. He seemed to make a little noise of discomfort when he pooped last night but he seemed ok.
This morning, the area does not look much improved. He did his morning poop and now it looks "oozey" but I'm not sure if it is the ointment or the anus. He is playing and otherwise acting normally but I'm sure he's not the most comfortable he's ever been in his life.
Does anyone have any idea how to treat swollen anus tissues? I read something on google about cool witch hazel but I'm not sure if I should try this. Anything over the counter at CVS or even Petco/Petsmart that I can try to make him more comfortable?
I do have a photo of the area but really don't want to post it for all of YT to see but will PM if someone thinks they can help. Thanks.
Cathy
