I have also read, on this forum, that males can injur themselves and develop infections if their penis gets rubbed on a stuffed toy, blanket etc. And of course if their erection last for more than 4 hours.  |
I'm the kind of person that believes all dogs, no matter their size, should be treated equally. I don't think it's right to let a Yorkie bark, nip, attack feet, attack objects and/or people, but not let a Great Dane get away with it. I think that's why small dogs get such a bad rep. I DON'T think it's cute when a 4lb yorkie is barking it's head off like crazy at a larger dog, whereas I see a lot of people laugh it off and think it's hilarious. If people saw a Pit Bull doing that, I don't think they'd be laughing.
So to answer your question, if I owned a Great Dane, yes I would allow him to hump a STUFFED animal if he did it. But never another dog or a person or allow it to become a really bad habit.
Like I said, Jackson has ONE big teddy bear that he loves. He has NEVER once humped or tried to hump another dog, or a human, or a couch, or anything. It's just big fluffy teddy bears. He is not a dominant dog really at all so I don't think it's about dominance. He's neutered so I don't know if it's "sexual" or not. I think he just finds it fun. It's not an every day occurrence. I'd say it's a once a week type deal that makes him happy and wears him out... so why not? He's never done it in front of guests in the house, and like I said, I would NEVER allow him to hump another dog or a human.
