Over the weekend, we bought another male yorkie to keep our Charlie company. No name for the new baby yet, maybe Theodore - we'll call him Teddy or Benjamin (Bennie) or Louie (Prince Charles and King Louie...).
Charlie is 18 weeks old and weighs 4.5 lbs. The new guy is 11.5 weeks and weighs 1.3 lbs.
Right now, Charlie is getting used to having the new guy around. Charlie wants to play with him but sometimes he is a little bit rough, he's just so much bigger. He is not aggressive though, the eat together, usually out of the same bowl and have been sleeping together. Charlie can now go up and down steps on his own, so he has free reign of the house, even when we are gone. He is pretty much completely potty-trained.
My question is what to do when no one is home with them (usually only for 3 hours max at any time), just until Charlie calms down his play with the little guy and/or the little guy gets bigger... I would love to let them both have free reign of the house when the are alone.
Should we put the baby in a crate (we are not crate training him, but we do have one at home) and leave Charlie out so that they can see/smell each other? Or is it better to put the baby in our upstairs bedroom (completely doggie proof) with the door shut?
Just wondering which option is better for my two guys. We got a second yorkie to keep Charlie company and I just want to do what is best for both of them.
