A good groomer will ask for the shot records. Ask the vet what he thinks best and at least you will have a number to give to the groomer.
As far as the cut, I think you should be able to manage the grooming. Practice makes perfect. Also some groomers give lessons for the same cost as a grooming session. Good Luck!! and please post pics
