And it is necessary here to do it to comply with the AKC standard and my pups will be registered with AKC. All my adult yorkies have docked tails, so that is how I want my puppies to look.
Now, I have seen some videos of someone docking their own pups, which I thought was terrible. The puppies were crying and obviously it was painful for them. I do not advocate that at all. When my vet does it, he knows what he is doing and I don't believe it is all the bad, but that is JMO.
I have breeder friends that dock their own tails with no more trouble than the vets doing it as their vet showed them the correct and proper way and I will be in the future be taught how to dock my own tails too but for now...the vet does it (when I do have litters which I haven't in almost 3 years).
