Hi, I know how you feel, I believe in neutering and think it helps contribute to a healthier happier dog, but it's still scary. My vet does specialize in small dogs, and I didn't have to tell him anything that he didn't already know. For example small breeds need to use a special kind of anesthesia, and he already knew that. Another thing, was he was the one who mentioned pulling the baby teeth at the same time. The Yorkie breed has a tough time losing their baby teeth on their own, and some will get a double row of teeth, which can lead to complications later. My vet knew that Joey's milk teeth should be pulled at the same time; otherwise, you have to put them under again in a few months, and its much costlier due to the anesthesia. Another thing we did at the same time is get a microchip. It's only $30.00 for a lifetime fee, and I feel a little safer doing this. I also believe that getting it done at the time of neutering is safer because the dog is less likely to flinch, which can cause complications. Best of luck in finding a vet, you don't need one that specializes in small animals, but you need one who's willing to listen to you, and your concerns. Maybe you can help train him into becoming a specialist in yorkies!
