Marking is considered a "wired in" behavior, and it's very hard to stop. Think of it something like a sneeze, once you start the process, it's very hard to stop a sneeze, and even if someone were to tell you they'd beat you if you sneezed again you still would have little control over it. Unneutered males, tend to mark, and using bellybands to hold a pad can be very helpful. Some of our members makes some really cute ones.
