Stray or dropped off pets dont run around with their papers even if they ever had them and many people don't have tags displayed on their dogs ....mine have them but don't 'wear' them - we dont use collars...especially on small dogs !
That's not a shelter - it's a death trap with a misleading name.
That makes me sick. |
It's not really a shelter, Villette. It's "Animal Control", funded by tax dollars. Name says it all. Adoption is not their mission. There is a also humane society in Gaston County and it is no kill.
The reason for requiring current proof of rabies is that Gaston County had a terrible rabies outbreak in the late 90's. The thinking is that a stray could have been exposed to rabies and since there is an incubation period, people who adopted strays without tags could be at risk. They hold them for three working days to see if their owners claim them, then destroy them on the 4th day in gas chambers.
I just pray we hear something soon. I tossed and turned last night thinking about that poor little guy.
