I know it is a lot to read but it worked for me What i did at the end of the day is search on the internet and got the baking soda trick and vinegar on there. For the vinegar solution i used 1/2 vinegar 1/2 warm water depending on the size of the carpet and obviously the stain. i sprinkled the mixture on the carpet until it was wet but not soaking wet. Next i took the broom and went over the wet area for the solution to spread right through to the fibers of the carpet. Left if for about 15 minutes and luckily my boyfriend has a carpet cleaning business so we used the machine to soak out all of the vinegar solution. You can however soak it up with a towel. The carpet was sill a bit damp but only like 20%. Sucked out about 80% of the solutions. Then i sprinkled the baking soda over the carpet. Left it there for the whole of the night and just vacuumed the carpet the next morning. The stain and smell is gone. So I'd say it definitely worked for me. I have to also add that i have very light cream carpets and the stains hasn't come back as yet.
Good luck to all that has the same problem I know it is very frustrating.
