Royal Canin USA Upgrades
PRO Canine Small Breed Formulas

Royal Canin has made a few changes to three of the canine small breed formulas. You have not seen any of these changes on your current food, but you will soon be seeing these changes as noted on stickers placed on bags delivered to your door in the near future. Recent scientific advances have allowed us to enhance these formulas to the better benefit of the breed and we want to take this opportunity to share these advancements with our partners.

Royal Canin has removed chicken from the ingredients of Chihuahua 28™ and Yorkshire Terrier 28™, and replaced it with chicken meal.

What is chicken meal?
Chicken meal is simply chicken without the fat and water content.
Chicken meal does not include chicken by-product sources.

As you can see by the example below, chicken meal is just a more concentrated source of chicken protein.

Thanks for listing their phone number, I was able to call them, and I think I understand more now. Chicken meal has been the first ingredient for a long time, but chicken was listed further down the list. They will be replacing all the chicken with chicken meal; I do not see this as a bad thing. They will be adding wheat gluten because it contains an amino acid not found in chicken, and they believe that it is important to intestinal health. She said the reason that people are so concerned over the wheat issue is because of the China problem, (it was rancid) and that they do not import any wheat.

I've got to say, this is the first time I've ever called a company and spoke with someone who really seemed to understand what they were talking about. (I wish computer companies where this good.) I'm not an easy person to snow, and if she was able to put one over on me, she's good. She seemed more than happy to answer any of my questions, and I recommend that you call the 1.800.592.6687 number, and talk with them and voice your concerns, or questions.
