I'm sure that it *can* be very painful and traumatic for them if it's not done properly. When I had my last litter done, they were 3 days old and three of the four never even woke up.
So if it was "tramatic," they slept right through it and never knew.
I always find those types of comments very comical given that my experiences with docking have been so different.
