I have a question. It seems to me that getting reasonably priced pet quality Yorkies for your nieces is fine, especially if they're neuter or spayed when the time comes. But how much risk is it to the mother considering that (I'm assuming) you haven't bred dogs before? We had Susan and Little Bit spayed because we got a discount from the breeder by promising to do so, so we needed to keep that promise, but MOSTLY because we didn't want the little girls endangered by stray dogs that would hang around while they were in heat and because if there should have been an accident, we've never dealt with small breed puppies and we were worried the worst could happen. I don't want to scare you unnecessarily though. Dogs have puppies all the time and Mom and I are worry warts. Like I said, I think getting pets for your nieces this way is not a bad idea provided it isn't likely to endanger your little girl. But remember, they aren't going to be free puppies, just less expensive than buying them. There are likely to be some fairly considerable expenses, some of them possibly foreseeable. The YT breeders will know how much of a concern these things really are. |
