Default People in my home??? please respond

I am not sure how to feel safe about letting people in my home when it comes to the time for my furbabies to go the their forever homes. I know that I want people to be able to see the enviroment of where their babys are at. There are just so many horror stories of bad things happening. I know that is it a red flag to get a puppy when you can not see the home or parents. I am just wanting to make sure that I keep my family (skin and fur) safe during this time. What are the "red flags" I should look for before I agree to let them come over? I don't want to be paranoid but I am not sure how to handle this. I know I will make sure I am not home alone when I let somone over but that don't protect us (skin and fur) or our property when we are not home. Would it look bad on my part if I meet them at a safe place in town then if I feel comfortable with who they are bring them to my home??? I know I also want to know where my babies are going so, Do you think I could go to there home first and "check them out" ? How do others feel about this? Please respond.
