I usually just take it and give them a cutesy answer and flash a smile, but just recently I cracked. Enough was enough. I am in the Hallmark store minding my own buissness and this lady, with so much botox in her face she looks like an alien, approaches me and starts asking me if Josephine is yippy and when I say no, we picked her breeder because of the disposition of their dogs, she gives me this look like "BS". Which I was impressed with because I didn't think her face was capable of movement.
Then she asks the question, "Oh how much did you pay for it?"
"Oh I just stole her."
She sort of half laughs, but stops when I don't join in. The whole time my whole demeanor is just deadpan. She kinda looks around to see if anyone heard me and then makes a hurried excuse and leaves the store.

I don't really get that question. I think I only got it once from my uncle his wife and his sister in law, I don't really like them. They criticized me for paying for a "stupid dog." I countered, "Well... At least he's better behaved than most kids!" Then I showed off all his tricks and how obedient he is and that alone had their jaws on the ground.
