Actually, you definitely have to supplement! If only 50% of your diet is NV Raw and the other 50% is un-supplemented homecooked, then only 50% of your diet is balanced. Pre-made raw comes completely balanced containing the perfect calcium to phosphorous ratio and all the necessary vitamins and minerals. Prey-model raw feeders have to achieve this balance by feeding 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 5% liver and 5% other secreting organ. Bone only provides a portion of the required nutrients. Even if it did provide all nutrients, feeding it 50% of the time would only account for half of the necessary amounts.

Also, not sure if this would work out for you but if you have some butcher shops in the area and a ton of freezer space, you could consider prey-model raw. If you shop the sales and buy in bulk the cost goes WAY down. Also, there are co-ops all over the nation that order large orders together to cut down on shipping costs. We spend less now feeding PMR than we did feeding kibble.
