We live about 15 miles from town with a new main shopping area with Target Penney's Petsmart etc... even a great movie theater. New housing developments too. Look for roads Valencia, Irvington, Ajo, Kinney. Make sure you are looking West not right around the base.
You will see some very nice properties. and again a straight shot out on Ajo from the base. (I live 20 minutes from the base itself if you go by time) We just moved my mom onto a Valencia neighborhood in May and she loves it.
