Maybe you could put off your bed time for an hour or so and play with Spike. If he had some vigorous playtime before you went to sleep, he might choose to sleep while you do. Try having a couple of sets of different toys and swap them out each day.

You might want to look at these toys.

I know it's hard to work nights and have a small dog that depends on us for company. When I first got Ruby I worked nights, and went sleep deprived for a couple of months. I would stay up with her for an hour or so, and then sleep for couple of hours, then play again for an hour, sleep for maybe two more hours before dh came home. Fortunately, I had the luxury of choosing to quit my job and stay at home with her.
