My derm is not real up on probiotics either but since i have dealt with an allergy dog for 5 years the two years she was on coconut oil and probiotics she had NO DIARRHEA and NO SKIN INFECTIONS so I know it works and now our vet just recommended it and i said sorry already doing it  he said make sure hypoallergenic and i said YEP doing that too - the dds plus works big time it is non-dairy which is hypoallergenic. I just know once i stopped it in feb of 2009 my dog got a staph in two months and then got clostridium which is diarrhea as the body is out of balance with bad bacteria over growth which is what probiotics help to keep an out of balance dog be balanced. My other two dogs are not on them as they are balanced but my allergy dog will be on that for the rest of her life as this year has been a NIGHTMARE since taking her off them  Since i put her back on them 1/4 no more diarrhea at all and that was a week before antibiotics so trust me they work. Dermatology is conventional medicine and probiotics falls more under nutritional so many are not up on all the nutritional aspect. It is your call but i know it works at least with my dog it has and it is healthy will not hurt them so worth a shot |
What is the coconut oil for? She does not have any diarreha. Will that help her with her dry skin? If I put the fish oil in her food she won't eat it. I asked the vet about the shampoo you recommended they do not carry it but I will call around or order on line. We went in yesterday he gave her a shot in case he missed a parasite this would kill it. I know you and I had talked around the holidays about having her tested for mites and we did test twice (2x) in the summer when she was scratching the hair off around her eyes, but he did a scraping of the eye area only and again that was then. He said if that was the case I would see improvement in a few days.
Having SO many allergies myself it is hard to watch her like this, I just want to make her feel better and see what it is that is EXACTLY bothering her.
