The diagnosis they gave me after catscan and rhinoscope is : Caudal nasal/choanal mass - suspect either polyp or inflammation secondary to foreign body. Soft tissue mass 2cm X 2cm at choanae (back of nose above hard palate) mild bony destruction thought to be caused by pessure of the mass.
So the surgeon believes the carrot has become surrounded in the soft tissue which has formed around it. The biopsy came back not cancerous. He said it was very rare and most likely he inhaled piece of carrot when he choked over a month ago. Rare that it would sit long enough to encase in tissue but he has seen it happen with bee-bees (gun).
My friends want me to ask for the carrot piece and set it in gold. He'll go in tomorrow evening, surgery Monday. He's still here making the noise; though it does sound a little better since they cut off a piece for the biopsy. |
