Can you explain your hobby breeding? Sorry but am still suspicious. | No problem, I tend to have issues with expressing what I am trying to say when I am online, no problem in person though. Don't know why, I guess to many random thoughts
You can be suspicious as long as your not closed minded. However, I have nothing to lie about.
What do you want to know about my breeding program? I can tell you I am not breeding hybrids. I have been breeding cockapoos for many years. I have 3 female cockapoos and 1 male. I am breeding to help make them a recognized breed, which takes a very long time and lots of documentation.
I started The american cockapoo club about 5 years ago for that very purpose, AKC requires breed clubs to help establish a new breed. Cockapoos are not a "designer breed", they have been bred on purpose since the late 50's but nobody bothered with working at making them a breed until the last 10 years.
I breed cockapoo to cockapoo, 2nd and 3rd generation right now and working toward 3rd and 4th generation. I have a program that keeps track of all history of each dog, each pup and each litter born. My pups are usually sold before they are even born, and some before I even breed one of my girls.
All of my dogs trace back to AKC lines. I research the pedigree's and health testing done on the parents of the dogs I buy, as well as the ones I own before I ever breed them. I only breed 3 times a year and my girls have no more than 3-4 litters in their lifetime.
My next litter I am doing a breeding hoping for a nice male like Ripley so I can replace him in my breeding program. He always has beautiful puppies but I want another brown or brown and white parti. So I mainly breed when I am going to "retire" one of my girls or looking to add another.
We used to have more girls and I felt more comfortable with only 3. I do not have a kennel, my dogs sleep on my bed or on the floor in my room. I do not believe in breeding all these mixes. If one is working toward a new breed fine. But like north country, so many are doing it for the demand and just the money.
BUT, there are more of us out there that are good, reputable breeders not just out there for the almighty bucks..But we get looped in with PM's and BYB's..
Anyhow I have babbled again.. Hope that helps you to understand me better. Please take a look at my profile, I have added pictures of my dogs, and us. |
