Thank you for your concern. I worked for a Yorkie Breeder / groomer for 4 years during high school so I am well aquainted with the process. I would like to asure you that I am not wanting to do this for the money, but strictly for the love of the breed and the desire to breed quality yorkies, not quantity, or "designer teacups".
I have also been reading everything I can get my hands on for years, ( I have read the breeder section until I have almost worn it out, lol) talking to our vet and and have several friends who are breeders of other breeds.
I waited years until I found our little guy who has all of the qualities I love best about the breed, physically, temperment and intelligence. Unless I find a female that represents those same qualities, I will not breed. I have been aproached several times already by people we have met out and about or at events wanting him for stud, but their females were under 4# and that is something I just won't do. Even at 5 - 7 # there are risks for the female and the pups, even under the best of circumstances. I love the breed too much to risk killing one out of someone's desire to have "teacup" yorkies, or greed. We have already decided that if we do find a female that meets our requirements, any females in the litter will not leave until they are at least 3 mo and their adult weight can be estimated. Should they look like they will be under 5#, they will be spayed before they leave us. My poor husband has nighmares of me not parting with any babies and being over run by furbies. Could happen, lol. The breeder I worked for sometimes had 16 at a time between her breeding stock, their puppies, and furbies she took back rather then see them go to unacceptable homes.
All of that being said, I am always open to any suggestions and input anyone has to offer.
