Aquired a yorkie... Hello, I'm new to this community and I'm copying and pasting this from the great dane site that I'm registered with. I own a 10 month old great dane and here is my issue:
Through no fault of it's own, I have aquired a yorki-jack russel mix. Yes, the people that created this pup should be slapped. They gave this dog to my grandmother who is in ill health and "takes care of" my aunt with cerebral palsy. My aunt is very sick now, and she and my grandmother are in the hospital. I couldn't bear the thought of this poor dog living in its crate most of the day so I dog-napped it from my grandmother's house and it is staying here with us until we can find a better arrangement.
It is a sweet little dog and my big tough husband is even in love with her. Sumo doesn't really know what to think. He keeps wanting to sniff and play but doesn't realize that his 135 lbs can't rough house with the 3 lbs of pup that she is. All interaction is very closely supervised. I guess I'm just venting because it is a silly situation. How can people be so stupid to give a dog to people that can't even care for themselves?
"Disco" is getting shots on Thursday and getting spayed some time soon and then I will be looking for a new home for her. I am just not yorki-savy. The poor thing isn't even potty trained. She's about 4 months old. I'd appreciate any advice about this little sweetheart because I really don't know what I'm doing. Everything I've learned about danes in the past couple of months makes me realize that I don't know too much about the specifics of other breeds. Any particular health concerns or behavioral issues that I should know about the toy breeds? Thanks in advance.
