I'm not sure what set up you had in mind but I have found the best success with having a crate by the bedside and when they wimper stick your fingers in so they know they are not alone. The other thing I have is peanut butter chew stix that I put through the crate so they will have something to occupy them. As long as you know they are not wimpering because they have to go potty these seem to work for me and they know they are not alone. Of course his breeder may have given you other suggestions based on how he was kept there.
