It's called discipline, and highly recommended, because if you ignore the behavior, it will only get worse.
I agree, mine has tried to bite me and not calm down and I too have tapped him on the nose (did you take this for more then what it really was?) just courious...hope you get it worked out I personally love my vet and had he done that to mine I would have said thankyou, you don't want to teach your dog that this behavour is ok.
