Pre-op bloodwork is not routine in my area, either. Unless one knows about in advance and asks for it, they're really putting all their trust in the vet's hands.

To the OP, states have boards of veterinary medicine that will review complaints about vets. You can check with your state to see about the process (just google 'board of veterinary medicine', specifying your state, and you should get something.

Also, if your vet is a member of AAHA, you can contact them as there is a procedure for complaints about member vets.
