I mean no offense when I say this, but I just wanted to say that in my opinion there is much more reason to breed "pet quality" than show quality yorkies. I say this because I am so much more in favor of dogs as pets rather than show animals. Pets serve such a fabulous need for people...they reduce stress, they teach unconditional love, they teach responsibility for another living creature which teaches kindness and compassion.....just think about what you have learned from your pets throughout your life and the "firendship" they have given you and you will see exactly what I mean.

If you make the argument about too many dogs in general needing homes, then you would have to be in favor of a BAN on all breeding period, for that to have logic.

90% of the people on this forum got their dogs from pet breeders and do not show their dogs. There are only 500+- YTCA breeders in the entire country so the majority of good breeders of yorkies are not show breeders but rather, pet breeders. The fact that yorkies are in demand and not typically found in the shelters (or if they are they find homes quickly) is how I can rationalize continuing to breed them. It is a wonderful breed and if we banned all breeding because the shelters were full, we would lose the breed.

As for registration and "papers", again, the AKC is the most recognized Dog Club in the country, but they have a terrible animal rights record, and they continue to promote puppymills by continuing to register the puppies produced by them. Until they stop this practice, I find it hard to support them in any way. I prefer the American Pet Registry which is quicky gaining ground and favor over AKC.

In fact, although my Princess Chai's parents were both AKC, her breeder chose to register APRI because APRI recognized the different colors way before the AKC did and so their historical records on parti-color and chocolate yorkies is more accurate. While the AKC has recently changed their policy on this they used to register a parti-colored or a chocolate as a traditional black and tan or black and silver as they had no other color options. Ridiculous but true.

Anyway, please do not feel any gulit for your desire to breed your baby and please know that you are doing right by her by doing this research and learning all you can and having a mentor. I commend you.

If you need to breed her to a shorter legged mail, then this may be what is necessary to compensate for her legginess, but those on here with longer legged yorkies will i am sure tell you that they are just as lovig and just as loveable as their shorter legged counterparts.

After all, long legs is just an aesthetic or cosmetic thing havint to do with appearance and has nothing to do with temperament which the most important thing in a pet.

PM me if you would likeme to put in touch with Princess Chai's breeder as she is very knowledgeable about the partis, the chocolate and the different registries and their histories.
