We just got Mack last week. He is 12 weeks old. We live on the Jersey shore where it is not just cold but windy as well. However, I feel that he should be trained to go outside. We have been crate training. This is my first time as well. We have never had a puppy. We usually get rescue dogs and have never had to train. I have read every website on housebreaking yorkies and everyone swears by the crate training. He has been good. Sleeping through the night and no accidents in his crate at all. However he is having on average one accident a day. Today it is cold and very windy. I took him outside several times. He refused to go. Then while I was doing dishes he started to go on the mat at my feet. I caught him and took him outside immediatley. I hope he is getting it, but I know what you are going through
