I was VERY fortunate. I received Toby for less than $100 and he was listed on Craigslist as neutered and microchipped. I know...................you have to be careful with buying dogs on CL and I was VERY HESITANT since he was so cheap and assumed the worst. The lady was taking applications for a week and then would make a decision. I had to fill out a 4 page adoption application. The lady actually called my groomer, vet and three references. That made me feel better about the person who had Toby. I kept emailing her all week. I had to convince her that I was her best choice. In the end, I was. She told me that on a Friday. The next day I had to drive an hour to go visit him to see if he was what I wanted. The closer I got, the more scared I was about this being a time waster because he was so cheap. When I got there I was very impressed. She lived in a nice, big log cabin that was very clean and didn't smell like dogs. She owns three other yorkies, was fostering Toby, had goats, cats, etc. The only dog I saw when I walked in was Toby and I thought surely that wasn't the one she was selling because he was too perfect. But it was. We visited for a good 45 minutes, she had the scanner to scan his microchip so I would have his number and had more papers for me to fill out and sign. So I knew then this was no scam. She'd had Toby for a year and he was very special to her. I did ask her why she was selling him so cheap (he's a purbred according to a few YT'ers that have seen his pic). Her response was that she wasn't looking to make money off the dog, she just wanted to make sure he went to a good, loving home. She also has three tiny yorkies of her own. She grooms them in her home too. I send her pictures and progress updates weekly and she really enjoys them. So I think I got a good deal on a purebred yorkie! And every day I can't wait to get home from work to watch him be all happy that I'm there. I've always wanted a yorkie but never had an extra couple of thousand laying around the house to spend on a dog. So I was one of the fortunate ones that didn't get ripped off on CL. I finally have the lap dog I've been wanting!!!! You know the old saying........good things come to those who wait. And it's true! |
