I too did some research on pet insurance and found that there were a lot of exclusions so did not purchase the insurance on my first two dogs back when they were puppies 9 years ago. Then, I looked into it again recently after my vet suggested i get it for Teddy and came to the same conclusion and did not take a policy out.
It is certainly good advice to have a set aside fund for your pets. Just the other night, Barney hurt his neck and we went to the ER vet at 1 AM. His little outing cost $175. Thankfully, he is alright.
