My 12 yr. old Yorkie has a pancreatic disease (EPI) but with meds and careful care she is happy and has a good quality of life. As long as her eyes are bright I will fight for her health.
I just had to part with one of my yorkies due to her ongoing health issues. She was 12-1/2 and I feel extremely horrible about it, but considering my financial situation and having been laid off 4 months ago with nothing coming in but unemployment, I did what I had to do for HER. I found her a home with an older lady that had money to take care of her. I haven't been in the shape (financially) to take proper care of my dogs for about 10 yrs! None of them have had shots in a few years. It makes me feel worthless, as it should! But keep in mind that even I have not been to a doctor in years! As for the one that I just found a home for, she has had ongoing health problems that I have had her to the vet for numerous times. I find the vets in my area to be the worst of the worst because as many times as I have taken her to get her problems resolved, they had yet to get it handled. I've taken what little money I've had to get her taken care of, only to end up having to part with her anyway!! I find that more unfair than anything. If one of them had just helped me, she would still be here! I have cried non-stop since I took her to her new home. I know this lady will do right by her and hopefully my little one will return to health and live on. I am allowed to call and check on her and I can even go and visit with her from time to time. She lives about 10 mins from me. I am so heartsick though having lost her though and no matter what I feel as tho I have let her down. I DID let her down, but not out of a lack of effort to try to help her.
