No, I agree, I have mixed feelings as well. Because I'm not against a standard for breeds. I'm all for the people who are out there to better the breed but it DOES seem that a majority of them are not. They are all about looks and reaching this level of perfection that doesn't seem to exist. For example, in the Yorkie, I don't like that the standard is simply not to exceed 7 pounds, which means that a 1-2lb dog is "standard" for a Yorkie. I personally think that is no life for a dog and not healthy, yet they continue to get smaller and smaller. It seems nowadays all a dog show is for the owners to parade around showing off their dogs. I'm sorry if my comment offends anybody and I understand this doesn't apply to every person who enjoys dog showing, I understand for some it's more of a hobby. My idea of a dog show... to see Golden Retrievers retrieving, Border Collies herding, Pointers hunting, Yorkies ratting... what they were originally BRED and intended to do, not be parading around a ring and molded and shaped into the human desires of how a dog is supposed to look.
