Your son is right - it WILL grow back and many of us have been in your shoes - I laughed all the way home when Chanel got her first really BAD short haircut - I had to or I would have cried....it's only hair - and you have a healthy baby - Try to count the blessings and be thankful she is happy and healthy - but I DO understand how you feel....
