I agree with jesscruz. Just the other day at petsmart some lady walked up to me and said that my yorkie was big for her age. She's 12 weeks and 2lbs. I was kind of offended, how could she call my puppy fat when according to weight charts she's not going to be over the standard? Sheesh, how much smaller do you want? Another lady said proudly that her yorkie a teacup and the smallest of the litter. I think she might of gotten offended when I said, "Oh, so she's the runt?" But hey, it's the truth.
Bad breeders or brokers try to make others think smaller is better. I think it intentionally misleads them to think that teacup=3 lbs and below, etc. It makes people think that smaller is better and in a whole different catagory.Anyways, I think the term teacup makes the average woman want one because they fit in your purse and can carry around everywhere. A dog is not an assesory. It is a life and what are you going to do if it goes out of style? Since there is a demand now for these types of dogs, this has lead to unethical breeding practices of the breeding of two runts(the unhealthiest of the litter) to eachother.
I wish the media would put a stop to it. I wish Paris or Britney would make a statement about "teacups" and their usual health problems. Or at least talk about how to stear clear of breeders who use the term "teacup" exclusively.
