I'm over at my dad's house often and they have two dogs and I bring Jackson over. The kittens came first before I even got Jackson and Jackson will STILL chase them... as will their 2 dogs. They don't not get along but it's a constant battle dog vs. cat. I would never own a dog and a cat together personally, LOL. We used to have a cat with our German shepherd and Golden Retriever growing up and it was the same issue. Luckily, the cats have learned to stay upstairs and the dogs stay downstairs (gated off). It has gotten better too. I think they just learned to put up with each other but they certainly don't play together. The pic below is the closest they've ever been to each other, ha!

Have you thought about maybe adopting a dog that's already past it's puppy stage, already potty trained, going thru a rescue? It may be less stressful than a pup if it's a good match!
