You can only edit a message for 5 minutes after you posted something, for example, your post on this thread should have had an "edit button" in the lower right hand corner of your post for about 5 minutes, this gives you a little time to change spelling or add a new thought. After five minutes, you have to contact admin, but they only edit if the post has broken some rule. Sometimes it's best to click on "preview post", and that allows you to see how your post will look when it's posted, but you have lots of time to change it.
The edit button goes away in 5 minutes, see picture.
