yes, i do agree that the meat quality is the most important factor.

however, even if charcoal is available commercially for people to consume, i don't want to give it to my baby unknowingly. seeing big chunks of charcoal like that makes me feel uneasy- esp because our babies are so small. i'm sure certain amt of charcoal is unharmful, but to feed it to my baby unknowingly twice daily without intentional added benefits and the fact that they use this denaturing process to differentiate the meat of lower quality are what really bothers me. they are adding the "coloring" or "charcoal" to differentiate substandard meat unfit for human consumption- i'm not happy with that whether or not those additives are "safe" to consume.

pet food companies have disappointed me over and over.

thanks for the Primal contact info.

1) Please don't get too concerned about the use of "charcoal" - charcoal and "charcoal powder capsules" are available in many health-food stores (Whole Foods, GNC, allllll over the place) and is used by many people / vegetarians etc. for digestion issues and/or gas/bloating caused by eating so many vegetables and/or soy products (esp. used by some vegans)

2) THAT SAID....the real issue for *me* here is not the use of charcoal...rather, it is whether or not NV is using substandard meat - that's what we need to find out. We know NV gets its rabbit from China.

I'm not sure NV really answered the question entirely - I'd suggest you call them and ask to speak w/ their nutritionist or someone in the know at 888-519-7387, until you get the answer. If she is still there, Jessica K. has always been helpful to me at NV.

As for Primal - I really admire them (for the most part), although they do not always respond to emails in my experience. Interestingly, when you link to THEM here at Yorkie Talk and mention Primal's owner's name MATT KOSS, with whom I've spoken on the phone in the past (650-570-7400) regarding the pet-food testing issue (Primal does not do food-trials, btw )....they then seem to respond immediately, so I guess we'll see .

I think the question of the quality of meat products is of utmost importance and I hope we can get answers.
