Debarking, from what I have read is quite painful post surgically and should only be done as a very very last resort when it is necessary to save a dog's life or save a dog from losing it's home and after all training and animal behaviorists have failed o remedy the bad behavior.
I have read that it has saved the lives of quite a few dogs which is one of the only reasons it has not been outlawed. There are some vets who refuse to perform the procedure because they so strongly disagree with it.
I am disagreement with the debarking procedure as I am of declawing, tail docking, dew claw removal, ear clipping and spaying/neutering w/o a good reason of benefit to the dog. Any alteration for cosmetic reasons or reasons of human convenience is not a good enough reason for me. |
