I would not feed a poultry especially with an allergy dog. i have an allergy dog and an ibd dog both are yorkies. I know alot about this stuff. Constipation has never been an issue more vomitting as my dog has issues in small intestines sounds like yours has issues in large intestines it is getting stopped up down their due to diet.
Many dogs that have allergies also have IBD - ibd is a food intolerance which is different than food allergy. It is more tied to inflammation of the GI tract. If you think about it if something gets inflamed it can get stuck or it can be so inflamed something goes straight through without being processed.
If this were my dog I would personally do the venison and sweet potato for 12 weeks and supplement with the coconut oil as it is a natural antibacterial and antifungal and it is a good natural oil that can help move things along. It is excellent for allergy dogs too as my allergy dog takes it and when i stopped for a year she got a staph infection so back on it.
I would also get lactulose and if your dog has an episode of constipation i would use the lactulose as i know it works well for liver shunt dogs who have a hard time releasing toxins.
It seems the mylicon is more for gas than constipation |
ok, here's the thing.
When we first brought Miracle home she was pregnant, a week later she had her babies, when we started to wean them in August I started to change her diet because I wanted her off the Ceasars. She did not appear to be having any problems with it but I just wanted her and read on this site that it was best to put her on a premium dog food. So I put her on Blue Buffalo and chicken and garden veggies, one of the items that was in this that was not in the Blue Buffalo was rice. So after talking to the vet we switched her to Duck and Potato, along with zrytec and she had been on steroids, If I took her off of the zrytec she would start itching again.
We then performed an allergy test (RASH) testing, some seem to go by this and other's say they do not work. I know that for me they worked but I am human and not a doggy so. I myself have MANY food allergies so I know the differences between food allergy and intolerance. I also know about being misdiagnosed as they thought I had IBS and in reality I have Celiac Disease which mean you body (small intestens) can't break down gluten.
Anyway, when I put her on this turkey food the girl told me I could feed this to her mixed with raw venison (actually two people told me this) that is what I did and that is when the problem started.
I read this can a few days ago and it says to use it as a mixer or a supplement. Not sure if that made a difference but it just doesn't sound like it is to given as food. The other thing I found out is that I am a bad mommy and have been feeding her more than I should be. She would eat so much off the duck and potato because they removed some of the ingredients out of it that helps to fill them up (I found this also on this site) so when I switched I was feeding her way more than she should be getting.
Since Friday we changed her diet to chicken, sweet potato/pumpkin and green beans. I have backed off of the mylicon and she is doing 100% better.
I think that trying the elmination diet which is what both vets and folks on this site have both suggested is where we should start at.
I'm not saying that she does not have IBS or colitis as I researched both of them and it is worth me checking into but I think that rather than put her through a bunch of tests right now, see how she does for a couple of days.
My other thing is that the ceasars had chicken in it and she did not have a problem with it. She has never had a problem with constipation until last Sunday. Usually with IBS and other gastroal problems there is something before it usually doesn't just come on, is it different in dogs? Also, she has not has not had any vomiting at all nor has she had any diarrhea. I looked at the symptoms for both and the only thing she had that is listed on them is the constipation. Do you really think that she could have one of these?
I will go and buy the lactulose and keep that around just in case, it sounds like this comes better recommended from all of you.
I hope that you do not think I am brushing this off or not taking your advice especially since I asked for it but I just want to wait a couple of days and see how she does.
