To the OP.
I use the same precautions I use when preparing our food. I do re-bag when I get a new bag. I put 3 or 4 days worth in small ziploc bags, and place all those small bags in larger bags. I get out a small bag, put it in a pyrex dish in the veggie bin to thaw and use. I use the clorax hard surface cleaner to wipe down everything. And wash hands!!
I don't worry about feces in the yard, cause Bonnie uses a potty pad and she lets me know when she has used the pad. (yea, she still gets a treat

) I pick it up with tissue and flush it. and them of course wash hands very well. I am a hand-washing fanatic.
