Metronidazole is the single worst pill to get into a dog!!!!!!!! I am lucky enough to live close to a pharmacist who formulated the pill in a very thick, highly conc, tuna flavored concoction. My dogs took that. Pat was right about the yogurt and stuff. She is the best..I never thought about the peanut butter...
But it sounds like your baby did not get cleared up the first time. Make sure the vet does a stool sample before and AFTER the start of meds.
I use BeneBac or human acidophilus for any of my babies that get sick. It is the beneficial bacteria in the bowel and is the active enzyme in yogurt. My problem is that I have had dogs that did not handle lactose well so I just gave up and started using the enzyme.
Your baby might have another bowel problem that occured as a result of the antibiotics for the original problem. It is not a BIG, BIG deal if you can keep the babe hydrated..I get worried if they don't take fluids for over 6 or so hours cause my younguns are big drinkers..of water!
Keep us in the loop and let us know how y'all are making out..Any liquids that you can get in them is great. Even, fat free chicken broth is good. |
