vomit/diareahha (sp?) HELP???? My 3 yr old male yorkie is pooping soft stool with mucus and yellow stuff...he has been nauseated this morning and just vomitted clear white foamy/watery liquid. we will take him to vet tomorrow. but what can i do now to help his nausea/vomit?? he just tried to have a bowel movement but tried 3x without anything but a few millimeters long of gel-like clear mucus? Then he dragged his but on carpet. His anal glands were just emptied 2 wks ago by doc. when he had this 2 weeks ago nausea, vomit, and mucus/diareahha....... doc took stool sample and determined excess antimflam. bacteria and put him on metronidazole to clear up poop problem. BIG PROBLEM THOUGH....Spike wont eat the pill when we crush it and mix it in braunschwager like vet recommended!!! We can mask any other pill in this and he eats it, but he must smell this strong metronidazole script or something. what can i do to help his nausea/vomitting immediately??? We do have "antipuke" pill called Cimetidine that i am giving him b4 bed and this usually works to stop morning vomitting. HELP?!?!?!?! Sincerely, worried mom

quick fix for vomitting? Sorry guys..this is my first time on this website. I am trying to remember all the rules. Sorry if I gave too much info on last post. I am hoping to hear from someone soon to help my Spike. When he starts this vomitting, he will usually feel better after 6 hrs or so, then he is back to normal, eating, playing, etc. Like I said, going back to vet tomorrow. I was wondering if there is anything humanlike or kidlike that we can give our baby to help stop the nausea/vomitting?????????????Someone please give me some feedback??? Desperately awaiting someone's reply?? thanks, Sherry

sick You need to find a way to get the meds in him..can you crush it and put it in peanutbutter and put it on the roof of his mouth. I do this. Dogs don't spit stuff out as a rule, they keep licking and swallowing to get it gone. Ask the vet about a diet change to something bland when this happens. I feed chicken and rice for a few days. I also give them yogart, good for healthy bowel bacteria. Don't worry about breaking any rules for posting when you dogs is sick..I don't think we have rules, except to "play nice"..let us know how your Yorkie is doing.

| Give Spike pedealyte to keep him hydtrated. Also, try giving him some crushed ice. Pinot loved ice and it got the fluids in her when she had diarrhea a week ago. I agree about the food - I fed pinot boiled chicken and rice for a week when she was sick. You can also try the science I/D (get it from the vet) if you are unable to cook or what not. Good luck!

Metronidazole is the single worst pill to get into a dog!!!!!!!! I am lucky enough to live close to a pharmacist who formulated the pill in a very thick, highly conc, tuna flavored concoction. My dogs took that. Pat was right about the yogurt and stuff. She is the best..I never thought about the peanut butter... But it sounds like your baby did not get cleared up the first time. Make sure the vet does a stool sample before and AFTER the start of meds. I use BeneBac or human acidophilus for any of my babies that get sick. It is the beneficial bacteria in the bowel and is the active enzyme in yogurt. My problem is that I have had dogs that did not handle lactose well so I just gave up and started using the enzyme. Your baby might have another bowel problem that occured as a result of the antibiotics for the original problem. It is not a BIG, BIG deal if you can keep the babe hydrated..I get worried if they don't take fluids for over 6 or so hours cause my younguns are big drinkers..of water! Keep us in the loop and let us know how y'all are making out..Any liquids that you can get in them is great. Even, fat free chicken broth is good.

Maddie is on metronidazole for her inflammatory bowel disease and will be on it the rest of her life. I get the pills and have to break them down to smaller pieces and then I put them into those little plastic capsules. That was recommendations from my vet and when I asked why, he said they are so terrible tasting. Maddie is impossible to give a pill to, so after putting the piece into the capsule, I use those baby food chicken fingers that look like little wieners...break off a piece of that and make an opening into that with a toothpick and then push the capsule into that. Maddie loves those and thinks she's getting a treat and she doesn't taste the horrid tasting medicine because it is in the capsule. Your vet would have those little capsules on hand. Hopefully this will help you! I hope your little one feels better soon! Sounds to me like he could probably have IBD like Maddie. Pepto Bismol is also recommended by my vet and seems to help Maddie when she has her problems! Good luck! Let us know what you find out at the vet!

What did vet say? I was wondering what your vet said since my Yorkie Maggi had almost the same systoms last week. The vet could not find anything wrong so he gave her a B12 shot and a antibateria shot. She bounced back however now a week later, she got sick again, yellow vomit the color of a highlighter pen. She is at work with me so I can keep an eye on her and I have left a message with her vet. . Very Concerned Mom

Maggi's Vet Maggi's vet does not know what is going on. He gave her medication which I do not have the name of it with me. I am not thrilled about giving meds for something that we are not even sure of what it is. Maggi has not thrown up since yesterday, and ate this morning.

I used to have the same type of problems with Willy, I just recently changed his food from Pedigree to Canidae and the loose, mucusy stools as well as the small yellow throw up have stopped completely. He would go thru those bouts about 1 a month, the vet would tell me to fast him for 24 hours and then boiled hamburger and rice for a few days, then gradually go back to his food. I just chalked it up to a touchy stomach or he ate too much cat food again. So far we have had great results with the food change. Desiree
