Try sawing off the legs if it has legs.... then your hubby can just screw them back on. that may give you the few inches you need..... he should take off the door frame, it's not that hard to take it off and put it back on.
I agree!! I thought doorways came in two sizes, standard and french, but they comes in several different sizes. Who knew?????
