When their trachea is soft it closes and makes it difficult for them to get air in and out when they are excited or scared, so it produces a "honking" sound. We took the girls to Port Hueneme and Ventura yesterday to meet up with dh sister from MN. and I think we must have walked Zada a little too far because she ended up sounding like someone having a severe asthma attack. We slept with her last night and she didn't calm till after 5 am. Today she is so out of it with no energy, but she's only coughed a couple times today, but she's still wheezing. I'm calling the orthopedic Vet. Monday (the one who operated on her) if she isn't better by then. It's so scary, but I don't think much can be done for a soft or collapsed trachea.
